The Unbelieving King and Prayer in Fire
Hazrat Elijah (AS) was a great prophet of the Children of Israel. He was sent at a time when his people were deeply involved in idolatry. They especially worshipped an idol called Ba'l. This idol was a famous Syrian god, whom they considered the god of rain, harvest and fortune.
Elijah (AS) repeatedly warned them, saying:
❝Do you worship an idol named Ba'l instead of Allah? While He is your Lord, your Creator, your Provider.❞
– (Surah As-Saffat: 125–126)
But the people and their king did not agree to obey him. The king was an extreme idolater and arrogant. He wanted to kill Hazrat Elijah (AS).
đŠ️ Miraculous Challenge: Proof by Fire
Once, Prophet Elijah (AS) said:
❝You prepare a sacrificial animal, and I will do the same. Then the one whose Lord accepts that animal with fire, that is the truth.❞
They agreed.
The worshipers of Baal shouted and prayed a lot, but nothing happened.
On the other hand, Prophet Elijah (AS) prayed in the name of Allah, and fire came down from heaven and consumed his sacrifice.
Although many believed after seeing this scene, most people returned to their previous path. As a result, Allah Almighty sent a severe drought and famine on the Children of Israel.
đ§ Elijah's (AS) Refuge and Miracle
During the drought and famine, Elijah (AS) took refuge in a secret place by Allah's command.
There, a raven would bring him food every day.
This was an amazing miracle of Allah.
đ️ The Last Moment
According to some interpretations, Prophet Elijah (peace be upon him) was taken up to heaven alive, like Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). There is disagreement about whether he is still alive or not, but many Islamic interpretations accept this as a sign of Allah's power.
